María José del Jesus es profesora titular de universidad en área de Ciencias de la Computación e Inteligencia Artificial de la Universidad de Jaén. Sus líneas de investigación se centran en el área de Ciencia de Datos. En particular dentro del área de analítica o minería de datos predictiva en el diseño de algoritmos de extracción de conocimiento para clasificación (binaria, multiclase, multietiqueta o desbalanceada), regresión y predicción de series temporales con sistemas difusos evolutivos, redes neuronales y ensembles. En área de minería de datos descriptiva trabaja en el diseño de algoritmos de extracción de reglas de descripción de subgrupos y reglas de asociación. Es responsable del grupo de investigación Sistemas Inteligentes y Minería de Datos(TIC‐207). Ha publicado más de 40 trabajos en revistas internacionales indexadasen el JCR, ha presentado más de un centenar de comunicaciones, ponencias y conferencias en congresos nacionales e internacionales; ha dirigido 7 tesis doctorales, dos de ellas con mención de doctorado europeo o internacional; y algunos de sus trabajos han obtenido reconocimientos internacionales (High cited paper por ISI Essential Science indicators, CIS Publication Spotlight otorgado por IEEE Computational Intelligence Magazine y Lofti Zadeh Prize Best Paper Award). Mantiene colaboraciones científicas con universidades europeas en Alemania (Universidad de Dormund) e Inglaterra (University of Lecitester, De Montfort University y University of Bolton). Es miembro de la sociedad IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) y revisora habitual en revistas de referencia en el campo de la Inteligencia Computacional. Ha sido coeditora de varios libros y números especiales en revistas internacionales. Ha colaborado asiduamente como experta en procesos de evaluación de la Agencia Nacional de Evaluación y Prospectiva (ANEP) y la Agencia de Andaluza de Investigación. Ha participado en más de 20 proyectos de investigación nacionales y autonómicos, siendo investigadora principal en 5 de ellos.
